Lazy Hazy Days... and Changes Afoot

Wow! Talk about the lazy hazy days of summer! I don’t know what all the weather stats people are saying, but I sure can’t remember another summer so consistently dry and hot, day after day! I feel like I am in the deep south, sitting on my screen porch, sipping my lemonade, too hot to move or even think on some days! I hope we get rain in time for all the farmers’ crops out there.

We are having a very fun summer enjoying our new house and neighbourhood. We bought a tandem kayak and a nice neighbour down the road is letting us keep it at his property, which is right on the river. Joe and I have been out in it several times, exploring the maze that is the Severn River, in this area. Jamie and Joe went out too and saw a whole loon family with two fuzzy babies, just enjoying the river. We have seen muskrats and ducks, a blue heron, and lots and lots of woodpeckers in the woods at our house.

Our house is doing a great job at keeping cool. Nothing like good design for that! The roof overhangs keep out the heat of the sun at the hottest point of the day, there is a good cross breeze in the main room, and the screen porch is our new great room. We eat all our meals out there, and I have been doing my work on it as well; it’s especially nice when there is a good breeze coming from the river-it goes right through the porch. Molly lies in her little basket beside me on the porch, and sometimes we both drift off…who am I kidding, she sleeps most of the days away! Me, not so much!

Steve and I have been doing some thinking about the North Simcoe News and what is next. My other jobs are finished for the summer, and I finally have time to think about the paper; it was a busy year! Print and mailing is so expensive, we would love to find a solution for that, and a way to expand the NSCN’s reach and audience for our advertisers. Steve has been working on re-working our website with the aim to have advertising on that as well as other special contests and content. Check it out at www.NorthSimcoeNews.com and let us know what you think and any ideas you have to improve it! We have been utilizing our Facebook page more as well- thanks to everyone who has Liked us on Facebook- and please Like us if you haven’t yet!

We are your community newspaper, and our North Simcoe News content is by the community, for the community. Don’t hesitate to send us any pictures, events and stories about things in the area- what we can’t fit in the print version, we will upload to our website, so all of it gets out there to our neighbours! Thanks for your support. Let us know what we can do to support you better! Keep cool!
